Peter Zumthor Luzi House
A friend of mine is currently studying Peter Zumthors Luzi House. His task is to physically replicate Zumthors house in the form of a model and using photography provide a replication of the compilation below with the aim to achieve a perfect replica with heavy focus on the lighting solution. Peter Zumthor is known for his Incredible manipulation of light through his architectural genius and choice of materials causing this to be a tricky but incredibly fascinating study. This all taken on board I was quick to take up the challenge of trying to replicate it myself using the skills I specialise in, 3D visualisation.
You can follow my development below and get an idea of the workflow for this particular project. Enjoy !

Stage One - Modelling
To start me off I was provided with an Initial Sketchup model that was
created to aid the development of the physical model.
My choice of software is 3DS Max so naturally the first step is exporting it out,
a very easy job with Sketchup Files as they import directly into Max.
Next stage is clean-up. Deleting all the floors I didn't need setting model location to
0,0,0 and layering all geometry into an original geometry layer.
Now to achieve perfect realism I have decided that It is neccisary to model
up all the planks and refine all original geometry which basically means all
floors ceiling and walls. To get the measurements some calculations had to be done.

Above you can see the progress of my modelling stage with line work expressed with a VRAY Toon Element in environment settings.
Usually finding compostion would be stage two but as we have reference to follow it was easy to set up a camera to match. I believe is almost correct but will be pulling it forward slightly to gain slightly more sight of the glass doors.

Stage 3 - Material
Next stage materials. You can see a quick update on my progress. Have a lot to do yet and a lot to fix !
